About Exitus Escape Creators
My husband Drew and I played our first escape game in 2015 in Salt Lake City with a group of friends and almost immediately started fantasizing about opening up our own where we live in Jackson Hole, WY. After playing our second game in Seattle (Locurio, check it out!) we were sold, and on the long road trip home started planning our own Escape Room.
I am a voracious thifter and yard sale enthusiast, and spent the next year collecting props and pieces to fill our rooms, gathering beta from other escape rooms (please see links below) and spent many evenings on the couch brainstorming with Drew about how to create puzzles and sequencing (no easy task, my friends). Finally, after months of planning and searching for the perfect location, (and explaining what the heck an Escape Room is to many skeptical friends and colleagues) the stars aligned and we were able to secure a commercial space in beautiful downtown Jackson Hole. Then the real work began…...
In December of 2016 construction started and between day jobs, weekends, and the occasional (and much deserved) brewski, we converted a non-descript office space into a groovy lair of mystery and intrigue. Our first, and in our opinion coolest room, is the Cabin in the Woods. Seriously, a skin care office turned creepy cabin. If you have your doubts, come check it out. It’s rad. But honestly, I can’t take most of the credit. My husband is a whiz when it comes to construction and repurposing things I would never even consider. I slapped on a couple of boards and turned a screw or two, but basically I just painted. The creative genius is all Drew.
That being said, I give great thanks to him for helping me make my dream of owning my own business come true. I literally would have just kept on talking the talk but this guy made me get up and walk the walk, and for that I am eternally grateful. He has got me through many days and hours when I was filled with doubts about my ability to make this all happen. But together we did, and we brought the first, and hopefully only, Escape Room to Jackson, WY. Want something weird to do? Book now. You won’t regret it.
I also need to thank a few other Escape Room owners for all the help and advice they gave me along the way. Without their enthusiasm I may have never pursued this crazy idea. If you find yourself in Marquette, MI, South Lake Tahoe, CA or Athens, Greece you should absolutely check these guys out.
I am including Locurio in Seattle, not because they helped us in any way, but just because I think this is a super stellar Escape Room.
A final note on Exitus. We are a small and personally funded business. We have done the best we can with limited resources, and we think we did a pretty bang up job. But there are people out there with much deeper pockets than we have, and while we are happy for them, we cannot compete with some of the bigger, high production companies (yet!). You will not find actors or lasers or hollywood-movie-set caliber scenarios in our Escape Rooms. But we hope that will not compromise your experience. We look forward to being able to entertain you and encourage any comments on what we excelled in or constructive feedback on areas in which we can improve. Cheers and thanks for taking the time to read this!
